When you see the good, share the good. This is a motto I make my best effort to live by every day. You just never know where it will take you. For me, it recently took me to New York City for a nice workout!
For the next few paragraphs, please read with a “are you for real” vibe, because I am still on that cloud and feeling that way. Back to my story…I have been using and am a HUGE fan of a fitness app called NEOU (this is a WHOLE other story and I can tell you about it anytime, just ask!) So when NEOU asked on Instagram if anyone was having a good experience with the app, I of course responded. I mean, if I think even your hair or shoe game is strong, I am going to go out of my way to tell you. So, OF COURSE I thought this was a great opportunity to “Share the Good”. In a stunning reversal, NEOU asked for me to tell them more about my experience with the app through a Skype conversation – so I did. I was honest and a bit vulnerable about my health and wellness and how their app has helped me. It was very emotional and lovely. Long story short, after some more calls with them, NEOU asked me to complete this experience by coming to NYC to shoot some footage and work out with their trainers! Say WHAT!?
My husband and I were flown to NYC on a Thursday to meet with the people at NEOU on Friday. I was to film some Q and A, tour the campus and possibly do a work out. The number of hours young Chandra PRETENDED to be acting on the streets of this wonderful city are immeasurable, so to actually be mic’d up and doing filming near Macy’s in midtown was…let’s just say, ten year old me is still in denial that it even happened. When I got to the studio I was ready to meet someone and possibly just get a behind the scenes feel. What I didn’t expect was the following: balloons, confetti, signs with MY name on them, and cheers from ALL OF MY FAVORITE ROCK STAR TRAINERS! I was a hot mess! They were thanking me for working hard and taking care of myself. They are using this footage as a promotion of their app and the benefits of it from anywhere in the world, including Kansas.
It was here that I saw my opportunity and I, you guessed it, “Shared the Good”. I told them they have all made me a better person in body, mind and soul. I told them how thankful I am for them and how much they mean to us on the other side of the screen. Guess what? Pretty much every one of them came to me and said something along the lines of, “You don’t know how much I needed to hear this. Some days I am not sure if anyone cares or if I am doing any good.” These are ELITE fitness leaders, personal trainers, the best of the best, and they too sometimes can’t find their “why”. We are not so different, us humans.
I could go on and on about my trip and my dream day. Cloud nine seems to be below me still, a week later. I will tell you this: in the time I was there and all of the amazing things I experienced, NOTHING felt as good as calling someone out on their awesomeness. I challenge you to do the same whenever you can for any and all. Do not rely on someone else to build up others and to “Share the Good”. Be that someone!
